59th Annual Sapporo Snow Festival
January 7, 2008
Should you find yourself in or around Sapporo, Japan between February 5 – 11, 2008, check out the annual Sapporo Snow Festival.
As one of the largest winter events in Japan, the Sapporo Snow Festival attracts about two million visitors. The festival—held in Odori Park, grounds at Satoland and the main street in Susukino—dazzles attendees with awe-inspiring snow statues and ice sculptures.
Imagine yourself being surrounded by shimmering ice sculptures of all sizes. It truly is a winter wonderland in Japan.
The Snow Festival sure has come a long way. It all started when some local high school students built six snow statues in 1950—displayed in Odori Park. A few years later the Sapporo Snow Festival started to grow by leaps and bounds.
There are travel packages built around the Sapporo Snow Festival, so if you’re interested in visiting Japan just for this amazing event, look for them.
We’ll leave you with another picture of an amazing ice sculpture from the Sapporo Snow Festival in Japan.
